24 Hour Relay

What Is It?

The Calgary 24 hour relay is a charity event supporting Easter Seal’s Camp Horizon. The event is held every year in early June at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The event consists of up to 75 teams each ranging from 5 to 20 participants. A 1 km track is set up around a portion of the park. For 24 consecutive hours team members take turns running/walking/crawling the track. That's the event in a nutshell.

44 Hour Relay or Fun Run?

When speaking to the Squids you will often hear the relay referred to as the 'Fun Run' or the '44 Hour Relay'.

Fun Run - We often refer to the relay as the Fun Run for two reasons: It's fun; and we run. Well, some people run.

44 Hour Relay - If you've read the description above you may have wondered one thing. What does the rest of the team do while one person is running the track? Well, to be brief, we party; play volleyball; party; play frisbee; party; play baseball; party; camp out; and party. In fact, it's such an event that most years we take advantage of our campsite and set up Friday afternoon. The event doesn't officially begin until Saturday morning so we get a head start on all the other activities, particularly camping and partying. So, if you're with the Squids be forewarned that we go hard for 44 hours!
